If you enjoyed the first Extraction movie, you will love the sequel that Netflix has released in 2023. Extraction 2 is a global action thriller that follows the return of Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a highly skilled commando who barely survived his mission in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This time, he and his team take on another dangerous assignment: saving the imprisoned family of a ruthless gangster.
The movie is directed by Sam Hargrave, who also helmed the first film, and written by Joe Russo, Ande Parks, and Anthony Russo, based on the comic book Ciudad. The cast includes Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan, Tyler’s partner and handler; Adam Bessa as Yaz Khan, Nik’s brother and a former soldier; Daniel Bernhardt as Konstantine, a rival mercenary; and Tornike Gogrichiani as Zurab Radiani, the son of a Georgian crime lord.
Extraction 2 delivers on its promise of non-stop action, stunning cinematography, and intense performances. The movie takes us to different locations around the world, such as Georgia, Turkey, France, and Morocco, where Tyler and his team face various obstacles and enemies. The action sequences are well-choreographed and executed, with some impressive one-take shots that immerse us in the chaos and violence. The movie also features some emotional moments that explore Tyler’s character development and his relationship with Nik and Yaz.
One of the highlights of the movie is the 21-minute action sequence that Chris Hemsworth requested fewer takes for. The scene involves Tyler fighting his way through a crowded market in Istanbul, while being pursued by Konstantine and his men. The scene is a testament to Hemsworth’s physicality and stamina, as well as Hargrave’s skillful direction and camera work.
Extraction 2 is not a movie for the faint of heart, as it contains graphic violence, bloodshed, and profanity. It is rated R for strong violence throughout, language, and some sexual content. However, if you are looking for a thrilling and exhilarating ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat, Extraction 2 is the movie for you.
